Howdy!

So I think I've managed to set up my new forum so that only members can browse its contents, but as far as I can tell there's no way for me to block users creating accounts in the first place.  Is there any way to set this up as that, say, anyone who registers a username would have to go through me first?

It is possible.
Via the administration panel you will be able to manage the registration way :
Open
Closed
Upon Email confirmation
Upon Admin confirmation

(may not be the exact descrïption, but that's the meaning )
